Pastoralist Community Resilience and development Organization – PCRDO – was established by intellectuals from Ethiopian Somali region. The building block behind the foundation of this organization was the existence of many problems seen in the country and encountered by the pastoral society of Ethiopia since there is recurrent drought and famine that is occurring in different parts of the country. The pastoralist who are affected by the drought in various areas of the Somali region, as well as in various areas of East Africa, are in dire need of humanitarian support. So PCRDO founding members have agreed the necessity to establish. an organization in the region to improve and promote Peace, Human Rights,Gender, and Development in Pastoral communities inhabited regions in general and in Somali and Afar Regions. Pastoralist Community Resilience and Development Organization (PCRDO) will work out for the development and improvement of the livelihood of the pastoral society that was severely affected by recurrent interclan conflict, lack of water and pasture, and droughts facing the country due to the semi-usual failure of raining seasons as well as limited opportunities of working, learning, access to healthcare and sanitation. PCRDO in collaboration with the Federal and Regional Governments National and International NGOs, and donors will work hard to get sustainable and better working and living conditions. As their necessities to maintain life while the pastoral community will enjoy good taste of freedom of life, speech, work, education, Health care, Sanitation and independence that is why PCRDO has been established.

Objectives

  1.  Participate in the Reduction and control armed conflicts between the pastoralist communities for sake of pasture and water across the operation area.
  2. Promote Development and Democratic Values for the pastoralist community.
  3. Improve Peace Stability, Human Rights Advocacy for the pastoralist community.
  4. To participate food distribution and humanitarian aid for most vulnerable pastoralist communities in the displaced or returned areas of operation area.
  5. To advocate for minority rights and fight against all forms of discrimination
  6. To enroll children to school so that to reduce the number of illiteracy people, attention will be given to those vulnerable children and those with single parents.
  7. To contribute to reduce vulnerability of disadvantaged young adults.
  8. To advocate for the promotion of gender balance and equality in different aspects Including leadership, employment, and access to all basic needs.
  9. Implement water and sanitation projects across the region like construction of boreholes and drilling of Wales, Birka and ponds.
  10. Help the pastoralist come up with social system to cope up with and recover from disasters.
  11. Participate and undertake pastoralist related research activities across the region.
  12. To reduce and discourage all forms of GBV including female genital mutilation (FGM).
